Contact Lenses and Water Sports

If you enjoy water sports you'll need good vision. For those who compete it's a necessity.  If you like swimming, boating, scuba diving, or surfing you should be aware of some precautions you need to take.

First, contact lenses should not be worn when there is a chance that water can get into the eyes.  Whether it be from rivers or lakes, chlorinated water in pools or even just water in your shower you should avoid these types of exposures.

If you wear contact lenses they should be removed before any water activities.  You can then wear them again after waiting at least 30 minutes after you finish (assuming you've proper disinfected your lenses in between).  By waiting 30 minutes, of so, you give your eyes a chance to naturally flush contaminates out.

If you use one day disposable lenses you could simply throw out your old lenses before any activities and open a new pair to wear after your done (again waiting at least 30 minutes before placing lenses on the eyes).

If you need to see well during these activities you'll need to purchase prescription goggles.  They'll not only let you see well, but you'll also reduce irritations from chlorine and exposure to bacteria.
